Helena Tiainen was born and raised in Helsinki, Finland, a land of lakes and green gold and the midnight sun. Helena relocated to San Francisco, California in August 1979 to attend the San Francisco Art Institute, BFA '82. 

The peculiar and beautiful and mystical realms in this world and the universe have always inspired and motivated artist Helena Tiainen. Interconnectedness of all life plays major roles in her paintings, drawings and often digitally completed mixed media works. Surreal and playful aspects are also important factors in her art.

Tiainen has experience in illustrating, graphic arts and many fields of design and also professional translating and writing interviews and articles. 

She continues to participate in numerous group and solo exhibitions and shows and sells her art internationally via online venues and brick and mortar galleries and museums. She accepts commissions that fit her style and price range.

Helena lives in Berkeley with her life partner of more than 30 years, Greg.
